March 19 - 24

Casa Blanca, Santa Catalina Verguas, Panama
We headed to Santa Catalina to check out the waves before the Billabong Surf Competition started. Unfortunately, Marty's surfboard fin cut his foot down to the bone on his first wave. I rushed him to the nearest clinic in Guatomal for 10 stitches, novacane, and one tetanus shot, which cost us $1.00. We met Shawn from wavehunter.com and rooted him on into the second heat of the competition (Shawn getting tubed - below right). Tom Curren lost in the semi finals to Kyle Garson - born in Toms River, NJ but now living in Costa Rica.

Below (middle) is a picture of our camp site in Santa Clara ($6), where we spent the night on our way to Santa Catalina.

March 27- April 4

Eric & Gabby's, Santa Teresa Puntarenas, Costa Rica

We spent a week with Eric, Gabby and their four furry friends at their new rancho in Santa Teresa (below left). We felt like we were literally living in the jungle with howler monkeys waking us in the morning rather than roosters.

On our way to Nicaragua, we stayed with Gabby's parents in Cartago. Rover enjoyed a night of luxury in their beautifully decorated patio garage (below right). I couldn't believe Rover fit inside.
