At the end of our budget and with Rover
getting sicker by the day, we finally decided
to head home. En route, we could hardly
contain our excitement. As usual, once Marty
made up his mind, we were on a mission to
get home as quickly as possible. We drove
practically non-stop for nine days, and
only stopped for the smell of burning oil.
The ocean air, plus wear and tear finally
played it's toll on Rover. Marty had to
repeatedly repair oil hoses between Rover's
radiator and engine.
We exited Mexico at Matamortis and went
through the secondary inspection at Brownsville,
Texas, just as expected. The federal agents
asked us a few questions about our trip
and the truck, poked around the back, peeked
in our cooler and let us go. As soon as
we crossed the border, we stopped at the
local Circle K. We couldn't believe the
variety of beer, so we loaded up on domestic
beer in bottles. In celebration, we spent
the night at the Red Roof Inn where we enjoyed
a king size bed, free ice, air conditioning,
warm water, a bath tub and extended cable.
